New to Substack, stumbled across this page, liked the gentle, thoughtful tone, and subscribed (sorry I couldn't pledge Money--I'm an old broke guy on a fixed income). Look forward to reading your posts.

Peter, do not worry at ALL about the money, in fact that’s a good reminder to update the Substack default subscribe caption so that everyone knows these posts are free and will remain free for the foreseeable future! It’s a privilege to be read by you and anyone :) And, welcome to Substack!

I ended up with two separate segments for my Substack. One for poetry (with some reflections at the end) and another purely for essays. I find not every subject that I’m “ready” to talk about is ready for me to put into poetry. I write as a means of working out how I resonate with different topics, so with the non-creative pieces, I’m still at the beginning of my journey of understanding what it is I feel about a particular topic. The poetic works come at the end of that journey to synthesise and transmute the experiences I have collected into something new.

All this is to say that, for me, there’s absolutely been a space for both, and writing for both segments helps complement one another for my creative process. I look forward to seeing how it works here!

If you’re in the US, this is National Poetry Month, so your timing is perfect!
